Daily Delight
Recently, I had a conversation with a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time. She mentioned that she could see the ways in which God had blessed me since then. I thought back to the place I was all those months ago, and it’s almost inconceivable that my life arrived to the place it is today. Talking with her stirred up in me the desire to read a verse I hadn’t looked at lately, 2 Peter 3:8-9: “Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. God isn’t late with His promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change” (MSG).
Sometimes we arrive to the party late. But we, His beloved, are bestowed the gift of patience. The Bible isn’t a text that reads chronologically; it precedes and foretells and accounts the life of a man named Jesus who irrevocably wrecked how we perceive love, truth, and justice—forever. We see the transformation in our everyday lives, we feel its palpable moments, and we encounter Jesus even in the silence.
These past thirteen weeks, I have asked God to compel my hands to write whatever He wills. I relinquished the façade that I had any control in the matter. But to look back at these thirteen weeks, I once again marvel at what the Lord has done. Discussions of fears (Deut. 31:6), servitude (Isaiah 42:1), loving with reckless abandon (Luke 23:34), the depravity and redemption of broken women (Psalm 139:14), unrelenting grace (Romans 5:20-21), complacency in our faith (Luke 18:9-14), hope for the exiled (Jeremiah 29:11), and communicating with God (Joel 2:12) are a few of the places of exploration into His word. Through and through, the greatest blessing is what has been stirred in my own heart, Jesus working! He took this broken sinner and set me free of my captivity. I praise Him that I have been allowed to arrive at all, but mostly I praise Him that I have been allowed to change.
