Loving God does not always mean good feelings and perfect things. As a matter of fact, loving Him and believing in His love sometimes requires a firm stand, with rooted and firm feet on the ground.
Following Jesus at times is confusing and can seem dark. Despite this, however, I have learned that the greatest thing we must hold onto is the Hope that is the Cross, Jesus.
Our feelings, although real, can be deceiving. At times, even though our feelings are real and can probably be justified, they can cloud our sense of reality and feelings. Sometimes, they can even dictate what we know to be truth and distort what is. In losing sight of this truth, we lose sight of our hope. We begin to look to ourselves and others to be our sustainers, our hope and joy. We look to the outside of things in order to fill us with new perspective and joy, and begin to feel hopeless, joyless, and discontent as a result.
God did not intend for us to set anything other than Him as our anchor. His design for us was not for us to be our own lifelines. Rather, it's the complete opposite. We are to be completely dependent on Him.
Hebrew tells us that this hope we have, Christ Jesus, is an anchor to our soul. A Hope both sure and steadfast. It will remind our emotions, circumstances, situations, and minds of the truth- of Whose we are, who we are, and where our real hope stands.
Steadfast- unshakable and constant. Never leaving and always pursuing.
This is God's Hope, the Hope that He offers us.
Hebrews 6:19 "This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil." -Hebrews 6:19
In it all, we are continuously strengthened and anchored in Him. And really, sometimes all the joy that we need in the most difficult of times comes completely from bringing Him praise. Be encouraged, sister. He is an Anchor for your soul, my soul, our souls. Let us hold tight to the only thing that will not be shaken by anything. To the only real Hope.
