Daily Delight

Like most children growing up, my siblings and I would complain about almost anything. From chores, to the food we didn’t enjoy, to the petty things that children grumble about, there were plenty of things I felt the need to express my disdain. In the event that my mother would hear my siblings or I mumble and complain, she would sing a version of a familiar scripture.
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky” (Philippians 2:14-15, NIV)
She would sing it over and over, which would either embarrass me enough to quiet my complaints or frustrate me to silence. Thinking back, I can’t blame her for stopping me. Who wants to hear negativity and unnecessary grumbling? 
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9, NIV)
What kind of world would we be a part of if we truly thought on these things? Personally, I wouldn’t feel a sense of entitlement or believe that my way is the perfect way. I would trust that He is making a way for my every footstep and that He is providing for all of my needs. I wouldn’t worry about what my brothers and sisters in Christ are doing or what they have, but I would be encouraging them in the race we are running together. Be motivated to think before you speak. Be quick to listen and slow to speak. Spend this Monday praising the Lord for all He has done and for the things He has planned for your future.

Nicole is an Arkansas native who loves the Hogs and enjoys playing the piano and guitar, snort-laughing with her friends, and watching cooking shows on television in her spare time.
