When You said, ‘Seek My Face,’ my heart said to You, Your Face Lord, will I seek.”
-Psalm 27:8 (KJV)
This was the first time I experienced the Holy Spirit lift His Living Words from the pages of my Bible and breathe them Personally into my heart. At that moment, it was as if nothing else in life mattered, for God Himself was present in that room with me. As I heard His inward voice, I bowed my knees in awe that He would speak to me! I waited, listening. There came an impression of His desire for me, as I seek His Face, to also truly enjoy Him. To enjoy the deeply personal relationship we would be sharing. The answer of my heart came without hesitation, ‘Your Face Lord, will I seek!’
To me, seeking the Face of the Lord is searching for Christ as I read my Bible and asking Him to speak to me. It happens as I endeavor to live each day in dependence upon Him, wanting to know Him more deeply and to walk closely with Him. David, was a man desperate for the Face of the Lord. “Do not hide Your Face from your servant. Let Your Face shine on your servant. My times are in Your hand” (Psalm 69:17; 31:15-16). And Psalm 105:4 declares, “Seek His Face always.”
Think of when you meet with friends, you look into each other's faces and eyes, watching the other’s facial expressions, to understand more clearly what each is saying. I believe this is exactly the kind of loving relationship our Lord desires with us. “The Lord spoke to Moses, Face to face, as a man speaks to his friend” (Exodus 33:11 NIV). Beloved sisters, might we dare to invite our Lord to speak to us as Samuel did in 1 Samuel 3:10? “The Lord came and stood there, calling as at other times...Then Samuel said, 'Speak, for your servant is listening.' And The Lord spoke to Samuel.”
The Lord is longing to draw us each to Himself, and into an ever-deepening, relationship with Him, if we will allow it. Each day Our Beloved is calling to us, “Seek My Face.” May our response always be, “Your Face Lord, will I seek.”
