Wherever you are, be all there.” – Jim Elliot
It’s easy to get wrapped up in the future, in what the desired outcome could be. I know I am anxious, and sometimes daydream, about what will finally happen when this period of waiting and struggling is over.
I read an article recently titled “When You Can’t Skim Over Life.” The author, Samantha Barnes, wrote about when we read Scripture we get excited because we know the outcome – the Israelites are delivered from Pharaoh, Ruth marries Boaz, Christ rises from the dead and ascends to Heaven, but we tend to completely miss the before. The Israelites didn’t know if they’d be delivered; they only knew their oppression. Ruth moved to a foreign land she didn’t know, unsure of provision. The disciples and followers of Christ mourned for three days.
In those times, like many of us are in now, we don’t know the outcome. We don’t know what God will do or when He will show up. We just know our pain. Our heartache. Our confusion.

Yet it is in these times that God moves in ways we cannot see. It is when He works in us, molding us into image bearers that better reflect Him – these times we cry out are some of the most intimate times we will have with Him. We draw close, lean into His presence, trust in His faithfulness.
Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory He will reveal to us later.
-Romans 8:18 (NLT)
We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised." -Hebrews 6:11-12 (NIV)
I know you’re ready for the outcome. Be still. Trust Him. We can’t skip ahead so as hard as it is, make the most of this time. Be here in this moment. I know you’re weary. I am too. Keep clinging to Truth so that one day, you can look back and reflect on this time with excitement because then you’ll know the outcome and see how He has worked in this time.
