I’ve been thinking a lot about trust recently.
What is it exactly?
Faith is trust – believing something to be true about something or someone.
But how do we get there? Isn’t trust built?
When it comes to God, do I build trust with Him?
As I look back on my life I see places that God consistently proved himself good to me, trustworthy. He didn’t have to build trust with me as if He wasn’t trustworthy and then slowly made His way there with every good work. He’s always been trustworthy and He’s kind enough to prove that again and again.
Sometimes we compartmentalize trust with God.
I trusted God that time and in that place but can I trust Him here?
The beautiful thing about God is that He doesn’t change – if you trusted Him once you can trust Him again. He will not disappoint you. God is not like us, we all have people we can trust in one area but not another – my husband can trust me to be faithful but he can’t trust me to be on time to places (because let’s face it I’m not consistent in that area)
“God is not a man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” (Numbers 23:19 ESV)
If you’re struggling to trust God in a certain area of your life look at the other areas you can trust Him with and let that build faith. God is trustworthy – it’s a part of His nature which means He’s trustworthy in every single thing. Let the truth that God cannot change give you confidence and hope and then take the jump and choose to trust.
Trust is a choice and then an action. It requires us to actively engage in it. It really is the leap and the freefall but the good news is that God is trustworthy and He’s on the other side. It may not turn out the way we thought it would but this truth doesn’t change - He is worthy of our trust.
