Daily Delight

One of my recent prayers has been to be undistracted, to be still and calm enough to hear His whisper. One morning I opened my bible to Isaiah 55 and these verses jumped out at me:
“Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and delight yourself in abundance. Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen that you may live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, according to the faithful mercies shown to David.” (Is. 55: 2-3 NASB)
It stunned me that this was exactly what I’d been praying, but more so than that there was a reminder of a promise. God is saying, “Why are you wasting your time and effort on things that will not fulfill you and distracting yourself with things that don’t satisfy?” But if we stop and listen we’ll hear His words and be reminded of His promises and that is how our soul is fulfilled. His promises to us literally produce life inside of us and He wants us to come close so we can be reminded and refreshed. I don’t believe this is a one-time deal, there isn’t just one promise over our lives, there are promises He wants to keep pouring out to us but we’ve got to position ourselves to hear.
He doesn’t make it hard to hear Him, we do when we don’t take time to be still. Bill Johnson summarizes it this way, “if someone is hard of hearing I will speak louder in order for them to hear me, it is the same way with God.” God is always speaking and when we’re trying to hear Him we will, he’s not teasing us with whispers. Sometimes it’s a whisper because our world is too loud and sometimes it’s a whisper because that is a reward of relationship. You only get to whisper to people you’re close to.

Just like in the beginning when He literally spoke life into creation, He wants to do the same in our souls. His words refresh, renew, and restore. Be still today and let His words wash over you. {photo: @fromevelynsheart
