Daily Delight
Many of us are faced with numerous tasks to complete on a daily basis. As a result, it's easy to find ourselves overwhelmed and seeking the strength to see them through. One day as I was driving home from picking up the kids, all I could think about was getting home and sitting before Jesus. I felt so overwhelmed and needed to take some time to bask in the presence of the Father and soak Him in. I literally saw myself throwing my body at the feet of Jesus. It had certainly been a day.
Psalm 84:2 became my cry: "My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.” I needed my Father to minister to me. After all, being a single parent and taking on more responsibilities is something I simply cannot handle on my own. I have to constantly draw from God. If not, I don’t know where I would be.
This was a day that I had to forget about being Martha for a minute. The laundry had to be pushed aside, preparations for dinner would have to wait for about an extra thirty minutes and the kids were going to have to excuse me for some time. I just needed some time with Jesus.
There was something that stood out to me about Mary and Martha. Martha was so concerned about preparing dinner that she failed to see the need to sit before Jesus. As Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, Jesus told Martha, “There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:42, NLT). Don’t get so busy doing things that you forget your greatest need—Jesus. We have to spend time with Him. It’s vital.
