Daily Delight
I recently discovered that I have now been struggling with chronic throat problems for four years. This bothered me perhaps more than it should have. I had been determined from day 1 that God would heal me, and yet here I was, in the consultant’s hospital room once again. I had my tonsils taken out. I had tried all medication. I also knew that God had called me to lead worship. I just couldn’t add things up.
But later when I was praying with a friend, it occurred to me; I’m not supposed to be able to add it all up. Why? Because God has control of my life – not me. Not only this, but it is by faith, even only small faith, that miracles happen. Faith means not trying to solve the problem yourself.
While I may not have lost all faith that God could heal me, I did begin to doubt whether I was truly called to sing and whether my faith was too infested with doubt to ever see this illness healed. But then came God’s reassuring voice: “Nothing will be impossible for you.”
We all have mountains in our lives. Yes, some are bigger than others. But all only require small and frankly human levels of faith to be moved. And it is in these moments where we practice our faith that it actually grows and the crevices of doubt are slowly replaced with the reassurance that God is in control.
Whatever your mountain is, speak the truth that God is all-powerful over it. Declare that “if God is for [you], who can be against [you],” (Romans 8:31, NIV). Take the faith you have, however big or small it might be, and give it to God.
