Daily Delight

Few things are left unsaid these days. It seems that everyone is in everyone else's business. Social media has accelerated this. But as Cinderella says, "Just because it's what's done, doesn't mean it's what should be done." You go girl.

Life is meant to be shared, yes, and we are exhorted to practice vulnerability, but this is different. Gossip has disguised its ugly face and gotten into the party wearing a mask.

We have let ourselves be the conduit for others stories; fact or fiction, good or bad.

In James 3,  James describes the tongue as a fire and a world of unrighteousness. Yikes!

God spoke and this earth and all that lies beyond came into being. We too have been the given the ability to speak life and death.

As women of God, a primary way of showing love and being light is through our tongue. And we must wield it well. We must.

Last year, I learned the hard way that speaking my thoughts and observations to too many friends can get out of hand and spread like wildfire. Yep, it's true..even friends share with others what you have entrusted to them. Choose a select few who you can wholly trust with your heart and all it carries.
The best way to honor your friends, family and others you speak to, is to treat every word spoken as a secret. One that can only be unlocked by the person who spoke it. To name names and spout assumptions is to let that unwelcome party guest in.
The fire can be put out, but only after leaving in its wake, damage and broken trust. Be a secret keeper, the good kind, the trusted kind. Be someone who thinks the best of everyone.
Be a woman who stops the gossip.
Be the one who believes in integrity and trust.
Be the one who stops the masked guest at the door.
"She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue."
-Proverbs 31:26 (NIV)
