Daily Delight
"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." –Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)
I put God’s words on repeat, “See, I am doing a new thing,” and will myself to believe them. I look out my front window, searching for the new thing and see nothing but gray skies. I recheck the calendar and see the word “spring” circled boldly. Winter is lingering longer this year, and my heart aches for fresh beginnings in the way of bright colors and the deep emerald green of leaves bursting open. As I yearn for springtime and look deep within to find the truth of all God promises, I feel a heart shift.
Even though the weather frequently rules my feelings and outlook, God whispered directly into my unbelief, "Flipping the page on the calendar and celebrating the beginning of a new season is not needed in my kingdom. When the world flipped upside down on Good Friday and righted itself on Easter Sunday, my Son became the new creation. When I chose you before you were born, I began a new work in you.”
How many times do I ask for something, pause, and hope the answer is the one I desire? You too? The good news is that we don’t have to wait any longer. The new thing God promises is in us, and He is waiting for the perfect timing to allow it to spring forth. God is always working behind the scenes.
As winter lingers and I wait expectantly for spring to show its face, I can rest in the truth that it is coming. I can rest in the promise that God is making a way in my life. Let’s patiently sit with the hope that all God says is true is really true. Waiting is our time to prepare our hearts to receive, strengthen our minds to understand, and claim gratitude for all God is going to do.
