Daily Delight

Daughter of Delight, have you ever pondered these verses from Psalm 37 during the Christmas season?

Commit your way to the LORD, trust in Him, and He will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.” -Psalm 37:5-6 (ESV)
In the fast-paced days of December my thoughts often wander toward Mary. She, an imperfect, simple, and pure-hearted girl, received a startling visit from the angel Gabriel in the midst of daily chores. From him, Mary received the incredible news. She was chosen to give birth to the Word made flesh.

Oh, how I love to be selected, especially for a special assignment. I was thrilled when I received the email indicating I would have the privilege of sharing a weekly devotional with the Daughter of Delight community. Then the reality set in. There is a weightiness to bearing the Word of God. The ‘what-ifs’ threaten, and if left unchallenged, fear would take root like weeds overwhelming a garden.

Surely, Mary had questions. Fear would have been natural. Yet, she chose to do the very thing I am currently challenged with—commit my way to the Lord, trust Him, and know He will act for good on my behalf. Mary bowed her will and said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38, ESV).

So, what about me today as I go about the routine? Will I focus on all the things of life that feel impossible? Will I allow myself to be taken down by the fear I’m too ordinary for such an important task? Or, will I choose to remember I am a daughter of the King, who has been selected (like Mary) for a supernatural mission? What about you, friend? Haven’t we been entrusted to bear the Word of God to a lost and dying world? What if today we follow Mary’s example? What if we bow our will and commit our way to God?

The Lord will complete the impossible. He will do it for me and for you. He will bring forth our righteousness as the light and our justice as the noonday.
