Daily Delight

A few weeks ago, I had surgery and my ability to do much of anything was extremely limited.Truth be told, I’m not very good at resting. I begin to feel useless, unproductive and unable to contribute to those around me.It’s hard to sit back and rest when you want to move forward purposefully with some type of action. It’s also hard to remember that there is purpose in the rest as much as there is purpose in the work.We are surrounded in a fast-paced world that tells us to hustle for our own worth. We are told to be relentless in the things we desire. We are reminded often that those who work hard for something, will earn it and deserve it.These are worldly ideas created to instill a fear within us to do everything we can in order to make ourselves known and to provide for us material possessions and worldly praise.“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ (Galatians 1:10, NIV).”What is God needing from you in this season of your life?Is He desiring you to press forward with action or to press into Him to rest and restore?Whether it is forced or chosen rest, God has just as much intention in these moments as He does in the times you press forward with physical action. When we allow ourselves to truly rest in Christ, we choose to be embraced by Him in a way that allows our fears of not being enough, of not doing enough, of not keeping up or of missing out on something to fade away as we press into His fullness. We can accept the offering of true peace in Christ that allows us to be just as purposeful in our seasons of rest as our seasons of action.Allow the expectations of the world to be forever crossed off your list and truly embrace what God has prepared for you right now in whatever season you are walking out.We are servants of Christ, not slaves to the world.

About the Author

Shelbey Kendall

Shelbey is a 29 year-old, small town Kansas girl relentlessly pursuing the God-given purpose placed within her heart. She is a writer finishing up her first book, an entrepreneur in wellness and a seeker of opportunity to boldly share God’s love and truth. She believes passionately that when women come together in their God given giftings and rise up in community instead of comparing and dividing among each other, His Kingdom is further built upon and His love is better spread among people who desperately need it.

She is married to her biggest supporter, Justin, and together they have 3 young children. She enjoys going for runs with songs of truth blasting in her ears, supporting her local coffee shop by consuming their creations often and decorating her home with bright splashes of color.

Most of all she is incredibly humbled by the opportunity to offer up her brokenness to show the overcoming love and grace of God. She believes her story is one of triumph because of the ability to choose His new mercies every morning.
