Last week I made a mistake. This mistake was in an area that I’m trying hard to succeed in, and, to boot, in front of someone that I’ve been trying hard to impress. It was an integral error, and one that I shouldn’t have made. I’d failed. I was devastated.“You’re a fraud,” came the voice in my mind. “Why are you even here? You have no talent. You’re worthless.” I went home that day feeling utterly beaten. So many of us have been lied to in this way. Our stumbling is a perfect opportunity for the Enemy to whisper falsehoods about who we are, throwing us into despair. We question our value, becoming confused about our identity and what we have to offer. If it’s allowed to continue, this downward spiral desecrates our self-worth, leaving us hopeless– a shell of ourselves. This is exactly what the Enemy wants for us...to dismantle both our thoughts and our faith, that we might become detached from God’s will for our lives. This scheme is an outrageous falsehood! To realize the truth about who we are, we must fully understand Whose we are. Jesus ransomed us as children of the awesome God almighty, and no number of mistakes will ever change that. Rather,“You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God. No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah [my delight is in her], and your land Beulah [married]; for the Lord will take delight in you, and your land will be married. As a young man marries a young woman, so will your Builder will marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you." -Isaiah 62: 3-5 (NIV)Let’s cast off the Enemy’s deceit and turn to the One from whom our strength comes. Let’s live in the fullness of our identity as the mighty King’s beloved. Our missteps don’t define our worth. Our worth is defined by Who we belong to. Let’s arm ourselves with this knowledge and climb on, unafraid.
