Find Rest In Jesus
Every evening before I jump into bed, I do a few routine things to help me care for my future self. I shower, write a quick to-do list for the next day, read scripture, and charge my cell phone. I like to wake up with my battery in the green and 100% charged for the day ahead. I hardly believe I am alone in ensuring my cell battery doesn't go into the red!
We are super serious about our gadgets having a full charge, but are we just as intentional about charging our spiritual battery daily?
When my spiritual battery runs empty, it is tempting to look for a quick jolt. The world offers many outlets to plug into, but none provide the permanent spiritual charge we need.
My spiritual life becomes sluggish when I try to exist on the snacks the world offers instead of the abundant, spiritually rich meal the Lord so graciously provides. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus tells us, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (NIV).
In this challenging season of grieving losing my father, I can easily plug into my sorrow and the endless long road ahead. Matthew 11:28-30 is a reminder that the burden was never mine to carry alone. Jesus always opens His arms and extends the invitation to find rest in Him.
Sister, our weariness is no surprise to the Lord. He knew we would experience trials in this life, some unimaginable. He hears our cries, sees our tears, and has endless compassion for us.
Only through Jesus do we receive the rest our soul needs to cross over from spiritual burnout to a spiritual breakthrough. Like a low cell phone battery, a low spiritual battery eventually leads to a shutdown. That was never Jesus' plan for us.
Our Almighty Father is not a careless God. He cares about every large and small detail in our life, but we can only partake in the future He has in store for us if we remain in Him.
My prayer for us today is that we do just that.
