How to Build a Home Rooted in the Gospel
What a beautiful opportunity we have as women to create a home environment where our marriage, children, and faith can all thrive. It is no small feat to create the kind of environment that is filled with love, vibrancy, and comfort. The reward for creating a home like this positively affects all areas of a family's life.
"By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches." -Proverbs 24:3-4 (ESV)
Proverbs 24:3-4 reveals the benefits of building a house with wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. When we do this, we are blessed with precious and pleasant riches.
But what, exactly, are the invaluable riches it describes.
When we look at Matthew 6:19-21, we discover these riches are not materialistic. We are told not to store up our treasures here on earth, but rather to lay up our treasures in heaven. Wherever we place the most value, our hearts will be found there also. When we place the highest value on our faith and God, we are storing up heavenly things.
Building a home rooted in the gospel will be filled with the good things that come from living a life centered on Christ. Galatians 5:22-23 describes the invaluable fruits we bear when we rest in Christ; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Having the wisdom to know our hearts need to be centered on Christ is where we must begin. Once we understand this, pouring love, grace, and servitude into our homes becomes how we see positive change. Knowledge to live out the gospel blesses our homes with the fruit of the spirit. Our homes become filled with the good things of God because we are actively seeking His kingdom first. When we actively posture our hearts toward Him, we seek to become new creations in Christ. This then spills over into our home, and what could be more valuable than that?
This week, I pray that you will view your home as a kingdom-bound one. A home that is filled with precious souls needing the gospel and more importantly an example of the gospel lived out for them to see. Let's build our homes with the focus of eternity in mind.
