Tips For Reading Your Bible

The Word of God is able to enter the deepest recesses of our being.

We read the Bible to be encouraged, uplifted, to increase our knowledge of God — and we read it to be changed from the inside out.

James tells us that if we read the Bible and then fail to obey it, we are like a man who looks in a mirror and then instantly forgets what he looks like (1:22-24).

Spending time in the Word should lead us to prayerfully consider how we might obey it. It should lead us to Jesus’ feet, ready to do what He asks.

I’d encourage everyone to deeply study, pray Scripture, look into the Greek and Hebrew, devour the Word — and then ask the Lord for the strength to obey Him.

If you struggle to make time for reading your Bible, here are some special tips to consider:

- Set a time and place to meet with the Lord. Just like you would commit to meeting a friend, commit to meeting with the King of Kings.

- Choose a book of the Bible and take your time. Maybe that means you stay in 2 Timothy for six months or 1 Peter for a year. There are no time limits! There’s no need to speed through your time in the Word. Dwelling in one spot can really help you to meditate and memorize.

Sister, a knowledge of God leads to loving Him, which leads to obeying and worshiping Him. Praise God!

Have you spent time in His Book today? How can you obey your Creator today?
