Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given to me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ.” -Ephesians 3:8 (NIV)

Do you ever find yourself questioning whether you have enough training to carry out an assignment? This is an everyday feeling for me. I wake up and immediately think, “Who am I, God? Why are you using me?

You see, God has called me to do a job that I am not qualified for. It is a job which I have had no formal training. I have not read Theology textbooks, written theology papers, or taken exams to test my theology knowledge. The only qualification I have is a willingness to have God center in my life. This lack of training is counter-cultural to the premium placed on higher education degrees and certifications. It is often through the initials behind one’s name that people gain confidence in you, announcing you are an expert in your field and one that can be trusted. God see’s being qualified in a completely different light. The only initials God requires is “child of God.”When you announce that the Lord is your Savior, God will place you in positions to be His light. He will call you to assignments that leave you feeling like a newbie and unworthy of fulfilling His calling. Sister, this is exactly where God wants you. He wants those most unqualified to carry out His mission because He knows the task is simply too great to rely on ability alone. The next time you find yourself questioning God’s calling on your life, use prayer to surrender it over to Him. Ask God to fill you with His strength and confidence, and to show you the next steps. I have found this simple act gives me the confidence, direction, and peace to keep showing up for God. I love how the Thrive Bible states it, “God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called.” And for that, “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service” (1 Timothy 1:12, NIV).
