Daily Delight

A couple days ago, just over four months into my marriage with one of the best human beings I have ever met, I saw something. I saw how the demands placed on a husband by a wife can crush him. I saw the very raw and real struggle that occurs within my husband’s soul when I get in the habit of turning to him with my struggles and frustrations before I turn to the Holy Spirit.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀I saw that even my wonderful husband, as hard as he tries, is unable to perform what the Holy Spirit is meant to accomplish. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Friends, there is a burden that we as women can so quickly place on our husbands, friends or loved ones that they simply cannot carry, and furthermore were not designed by God to carry.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀John 16:7 tells us that the Holy Spirit living inside us is a gift from Jesus sent here to help us! How awesome is that? This is such a wonderful gift, and yet I fear that far too many of us don’t turn to the Holy Spirit nearly as often throughout our days as we should!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀So, have you elevated your man (or another person in your life) to a place he cannot operate successfully? Have you replaced the territory your Savior needs to occupy in your soul with your husband, boyfriend or friend instead?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀How do you even know if you have done this?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Here’s how: You ask yourself honestly who you go to first and most often when “tragedies” strike during your day- your hubby, your friend or our Savior? I am not saying our husbands or friends cannot be great sources for support, confiding and conversation. But do not expect them to resolve your problems. Instead, invite the Holy Spirit into the space in your soul where the frustrations live to supernaturally change your heart, strengthen your spirit and guide you through that terribly difficult situation. You will be so glad you did!
