Daily Delight

Every year, when December turns to January and a new calendar begins, I pray for the upcoming year and make goals—as almost everyone does. Sometimes they are called ‘New Year’s resolutions’ and sometimes people want to change something in their life and label them ‘goals.’I am a goal-oriented person, but I also allow the Lord to lay a word on my heart for the year. It is a process of prayer and diving into Scripture to see what He highlights in front of me.‘Abide’ was this year’s word.Scripture uses this particular word a lot more than I would have originally imagined. Like in Psalm 91:1, Psalm 125:1, John 6:56, and John 15:9. They are beautiful passages! Some talk about trust while others talk about love, but my favorite Scripture that uses the word ‘abide’ is 1 John 4:12:“No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us” (ESV).Oh, man. This is beautifully written. Stability and consistency are the first attributes of the Lord that come to mind when I read this verse. Because we love one another, the Lord is our stability and perfects His mighty love within us. Wow.He abides in us and never leaves—even in the darkest of moments. So, sister in Christ, go out and love people. Get to know their story. Listen to others. Serve them! God abides in you and His love is perfected in you. By the power of the Holy Spirit, you have everything you need for a life of godliness (2 Peter 1:3, ESV) and “we love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19, ESV).
