Daily Delight
While reading through 1 Peter a few days ago, the words "self-controlled" and "sober-minded" grabbed hold of my chest in loving conviction.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀I suppose that I appear “self-controlled” and “sober-minded” in the eyes of the world. If you look at my life, you would most likely think or say that I have things under control – our family is progressing well, our careers are stable, we seek to help others, and we desire that God uses us as vessels to love every soul. However, as a wife and mother, my mind is prone to being tossed around by distractions of unmet tasks, fearing worst case scenarios and pressures to achieve worldly standards. Therefore, I tend to be jumping from thought to thought and missing divine opportunities to see what God sees. I am preoccupied from being the praying and grounded leader within my family and community that God has called me to be [has called you to be].Do you get me?Five years ago, God started to impress upon me that He would anoint “lighthouses.” These lighthouses are those children of God who are self-controlled, sober-minded, filled with the truth of Christ, and fully guided by the Holy Spirit. They will rise up in the midst of the chaos that surrounds us – hysteria, financial crisis, terrorism, hate, confusion, fear, disbelief, and will be guiding lights now and into the last days described by scripture. The lighthouses will lead – without distraction – in prayer, worship and the will of God.Do not question that God knows our human minds and the distractions to which they are prone. He knows it full and well. This is why we are urged to seek the sober-mind and self-control demonstrated by Christ.Friends, I want to be a lighthouse. What about you?I encourage you to read 1 Peter 4, as you will be able to go deeper into today’s devotion. Be blessed!
About the Author
Shauni MacLean
Meet Shauni MacLean, a native of Washington State and a wife of nearly nine years to the only guy (besides her dad) who saw a light in her. Shauni and her husband are parents to two little treasures, Lilly and Molly. She is 31 years old, and aside from wife-life, mama-life and writing, she is a registered nurse in the field of pediatrics.
After receiving God’s comfort and revelation through inner trials over the last seven years, Shauni has been led to be uncomfortably vulnerable with her past and current struggles, as well as the Kingdom of God triumph that follows, so that other women can be encouraged. When Shauni writes, she is thinking of the women that need to know that we are all in the same fight that will lead to victory.
