Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses- as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God).” -Hebrews 3:1-4 (ESV)

In the state I live in, there are a few historical landmarks that were designed by the architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Each house, per say, is recognized first by its designer and then by its actual design. The author of Hebrews follows this same theme of recognizing that the builder of a house receives more glory than the house itself. In context of this idea, they addressed that Jesus is worthy of more glory than Moses, simply because He, being God, designed and called Moses to the task of the Exodus. Moses is the Superman of the Jewish religion, and the audience at the time would have held the highest regard for the man. However, in Hebrews, the author makes a point to address all heavenly callings to consider the designer or builder first.

Each person’s calling will look different. One person’s long term mission trip is another person’s coffee date with a doubting friend. No matter where you have been or have yet to be called, remember the finely tuned design that was created by the Creator of the world. He who is beyond all of our wildest dreams, who is more gracious and loving than we can ever achieve, is crafting you and perfectly suiting a call upon your life. Seek first God to know your mission. Jesus commanded us to love God, love our neighbors, and create more disciples. Before each task, remember that God is at the base of all things. He is the builder of your life and the lives around you. Love Him and let that overflow into your calling.
