Daily Delight
Wouldn’t it be nice if something you wanted just happened? Recently I’ve found myself unable to finish a conversation before having to take one to the bathroom or having them literally pull me away. Yet, when our church offered summer events, all I saw was more busyness. Then I realized: I can’t keep complaining about something I want unless I’m willing to make a change to get it.Hadn’t I been telling God I needed more time with friends? He had been highlighting opportunities that I had been turning away. If I didn’t choose to prioritize these opportunities, there would only be me to blame for my feeling disconnected! I went to some of these events and found that I had longer than 30 seconds to chat with people, and even finished some conversations! I had to sacrifice some time or comfort in order to make it happen, but I realized that spending time with people was more important than sticking to my routine.Circumstances influence our everyday life, but we are all given choices – some that get us further or closer to our goal, some that keep us stagnant. What’s an area in your life that you complain about? Your lack of time with God? Feeling lonely? A relationship? Have your prayers reflected your frustration? Have you brought those things to Him, or just griped about them?Remember, prayer is about God developing us and aligning our will with His. Otherwise we’ll keep aiming for things He never intended for us, with divided hearts. What is God nudging you to do as a result of your prayers? It would still be nice if we could just want something into existence, but just as we see Jesus going away to be with His Father, we too must be intentional to sit quietly and listen.Whether it’s obvious or subtle, we hear because we give our desires, grievances and purposes to the Lord. Then we will see the changes in our circumstances, and sometimes in ourselves.
