Honesty hour: I am a control freak. When things don’t go as planned, the quickening pace of my beating heart reminds me that a large source of my anxiety is control, or lack thereof. Sure, from day to day activities, I can somewhat spontaneously decide to do something out of the ordinary schedule, however, any large change is difficult for me to swallow. My plans, to me at least, work the best for my life. However, I am not God.The prophet Jeremiah wrote, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11, ESV). Yahweh, the creator of the universe, the Father to you and me, has a plan for our lives. Plans to bring us closer to Him and to bring Him glory. My plans, no matter how good my intentions are, pale in comparison to the magnificent plan He has for me.My anxiety over control has to be left at the foot of the Cross. Yahweh- who is light, order, goodness, and love all in one, and far surpassing all expectations for a human understanding of the totality of these qualities- has ultimate plans for a future that is with Him and a hope that can only be found in Him. I pray that, if you are like me, clinging to plans and doubts that anyone else can hold your own future better that you, to lay that down. Set it aside to never be picked up again. God, your Creator, your Father, your Hope, has a plan. Trust in Him. He is always pursuing you and will not cease.
