When, exactly, did we give so much power to “likes?" When did verification from our “followers” start overshadowing God’s truth? When did the screams of notifications and the need to scroll become louder than His whisper? So, let's talk about it. The very thing you're reading this on. The source of many good and bad things, social media. I used to not pay attention to "likes" until a close friend pointed out that I got "way more" likes than her. She even told me my "average" per picture. I had no idea the number of likes I'd been getting. "No way people actually pay attention to this," I thought. It became more prevalent in everyday conversation and I began checking to see if I was keeping up with my "average" and that was a nasty turning point for my relationship with social media and I grew obsessive. After posting something I thought was "worthy," I'd wait for the likes to roll in and this overwhelming sense of shame poured over me every time they fell short. Some I even deleted. How silly to let such an irrelevant part of my life control it and I started playing the comparison game. I was comparing people's "candid," on-screen moments to my behind the scenes. We all do it. We pick apart the little things until the little things become big things. Friend, please remember that what you see on social media is not real life! Your obsession with growing your following will smother your faith.Use your social media to tell people about Jesus. The world has enough girls who know how to put on makeup or do their hair. The world needs bold women who are willing to share Truth.God is working in your life just like He is working in the lives of our friends, followers, strangers and loved ones! His goodness is there. You just have to look up. Look up from your phone for just a moment and put your eyes back on Jesus. That is where your validation lies.
