Daily Delight
I used to think that my true calling from God would be something that I really hated. Something to “daily die to myself”. Something that I was horrible at, and not naturally gifted to do. Like teaching large groups of small booger eaters (which I hate) instead of teenagers (which I love). In my twisted thinking I somehow thought that would be pleasing to God. But then I read Galatians 6:4-5, where Paul instructs us to “make careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you is responsible for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” And I think about the fact that my loving heavenly Father has given me gifts, things that I am good at and enjoy doing. Things that bring me life and joy when I work at them. Things that, because of my natural gift and hard work, give me an audience before others and a space to share the love of Christ. Here me on this: God gave you gifts to be a blessing to you and to those around you. Our loving Father smiles when He watches you use and enjoy these beautiful gifts. Whatever your gift is, it is needed. You are needed. You are valued and treasured and worthy of love and so is your gift.
