Daily Delight

As I sit here to write this I'm drawing blanks. I'm exhausted. It's late, I'm pressed for time. I'm sore. I'm disappointed because instead of pumpkin carving, candy and cute costumes I'll be serving others on Halloween.
I'm busy thinking of myself but, as always, the Holy Spirit speaks, ever so softly, sweet words of truth. Our time here is short and what we do with it matters. Holy Spirit reminds me of the words my dad always says: "We are not here for ourselves. This life is not about us."We are here to love, glorify and praise our God, and we are here for others. When asked the greatest commandment, Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'" (Matthew 37:39 NIV).Jesus Christ Himself said the second most important thing in the entire world is to love others. His words should be taken seriously. How have you been loving your neighbor? I believe Jesus used the word "neighbor" because He knows it's usually easy to love our family and friends, but outside of those select few it gets harder. I don't always know what loving my neighbor looks like. You may not either, but this is what we do know: "The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" (Matthew 25:40, NIV). What strikes me the most about this verse are the words "the King will reply."
Serve. Love. Pour yourself out for others.
It may lose you a battle or two in the self department, but even the smallest bits of love shown to others is significant. One day the King will tell you Himself.
