Daily Delight
Not too long ago, I was on a little shopping trip with one of my best friends, and because we were broke college students, we spent the day rummaging through every $8.00 rack we could find. All the broke college students say "Amen." Halfway through our day, we came across a sale on these cute little dresses, like Hallelujah! So, we grabbed armfuls and headed back to the dressing rooms.
Of course, every dress I put on I had to show my friend because that’s just how BFFs roll. So, I threw dress number one on. I liked it, but was a little tighter and shorter than something I would normally wear. I walked out to show my bestie anyway because I can be a little overly critical at times.I charged out of the dressing room in my little black dress with a sports bra and bright white socks on. While I was waiting for her to come out, I stood in front of the mirror examining the dress on me when a woman sitting at the other end of the fitting room said, “Girlfriend, you’re gonna get all the boys in that!”At first, I was really amped .“Me?! What?! Yaaasss.” As girls, we just want to feel confident. We live off compliments like this. They give us the validation that we are beautiful and “wanted," because who are we if we aren’t wanted? It only took a second for Holy Spirit to whisper, “Not the kind you’re looking for.”I was almost caught off guard by the voice, because I’m all for modesty, but I love feeling confident and having someone's attention. We like that. We enjoy that. I’m right there with you, so I’m not preaching at you. But then I thought, if I’m trying to attract a guy that’s going to flock to every good looking thing that passes by, I am setting my relationship up to fail.Ladies, you are more than your appearance. We need to pay more attention to our hearts more than our appearances. Toss the comparison and trash the social standard because your heart is that which is of great worth to God and really all we have to offer.Outward beauty fades.
