Daily Delight
It’s Wednesday and in the midst of your daily running to and fro, you just realized it’s the 19th of December and there are just 6 days until Christmas! Less than a week! Yikes! If you’re anything like me, a small wave of panic just ricocheted throughout your body. Before your mind runs off to your pile of To-Do’s, shopping list and holiday plans, just press pause for a hot second. Be still and let the words of Jesus hold you right now.
“As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, 'Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.'
But the Lord said to her, 'My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.'” -Luke 10:38-42 (NLT)
Friend, I pray you feel the gentle nudge of the Holy Spirit as you reflect on this picture of Martha and Mary in the presence of Christ. As easy as it is to slip into the go-go-go mentality of Martha, I encourage you to like Mary, sit at the Lord’s feet and rest. Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and let her soul rest in the peace of His presence. Choose to enjoy your time alone with your Savior today before tackling your To-Do’s. Go for a walk down your favorite street and just talk with Jesus. Cozy up in that chair you love so much and listen as the Holy Spirit speaks to you. There are 1,440 minutes in a day, friend. Choose to spend some of those minutes today at His feet and bask in the love of Christ.
