Are you weighed down by sin? Are you weary from trials?⠀⠀⠀⠀Find great comfort and encouragement in the fact that Christ also suffered.⠀The book of Hebrews gives us a better understanding of how the sufferings of Christ had its full effect. In Hebrews 2:9, we see that Christ suffered so He might identify with us: "But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone" (ESV). As we read on, Hebrews 12:2-3 tells us His suffering was also so that we might identify with Him.⠀Sweet Christian sister, we must view our suffering in light of Christ’s suffering. Our every ounce to His every ounce. We suffer for the sake of the Gospel and Christ suffered so that we might HAVE the Gospel. We are to suffer as Christ suffered by suffering well. We must pray that we endure. This is not to say our suffering is not real, hard or painful. However, we must be willing to cry out in our suffering, just as Christ did, saying, “Not my will but yours be done” (Luke 22:42).Take heart in your suffering, for there is great joy and hope set before you. James 1:2 tells us we can count it all joy. This does not mean we will always feel joyful in our suffering, but we know there is great joy ahead because Christ suffered too. Because of Christ’s death on the cross, we have the promise that one day, if we are in Christ, our suffering from sin has an end date.⠀⠀⠀We have hope because Christ is triumphant over His enemies. Charles Spurgeon says, “The history of the church is to be the history of Christ repeated.” If we are in Christ, we will suffer for the sake of Christ, we will suffer because of sin (our sin and the sin of others), and we will suffer for the sake of the Gospel. But in this we have hope, because you cannot defeat the church until you defeat Christ, and Christ already wears the crown of triumph!
