Can you imagine what Abraham felt like when God asked him to sacrifice his precious and only son? A son he had waited for so long to have? He must have been stunned, and undoubtedly heartbroken!Yet, even in this moment, when defeat seems inevitable, Abraham trusts in the Lord and has faith. He molds obedience to God for Isaac to see, and Isaac trusts the word of his father enough to follow his instructions. (Gen. 22:8)Abraham and Isaac did not know God's plan, but they trusted He was in charge- and in charge He was! Once Abraham demonstrates his obedience, God provides a substitute in order to spare Isaac and tells Abraham he will have descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky. (Gen. 22:17-18)Friend, where do you go when you are feeling anxious? Do your actions reveal you believe there is a God who has enough grace for you? (2 Cor 12:9, 1 Cor 9:8) Or, do they reveal you are just going to trust in yourself and try to be better next time?God is omniscient. He is the God who holds all knowledge. He already knew Abraham feared Him and it was counted to Him as righteousness. God uses this encounter on the mountain to reveal to Abraham that He is the faithful one and the ultimate provider. (Gen. 22:14)The story of Abraham and Isaac is a sweet foretelling of the life of Christ. The Lord did not simply spare His only son, but literally gave him up- for us. This is how we know He will be faithful to us, that He is for us! (Romans 8:31-32)If God will provide His only son, whom He loves, how much more will He not give you? What good thing will He withhold from you?It may not be what you expect, it may not be what you hope, but it WILL be good.God’s faithfulness is greater than your doubts. Praise the Lord!
