O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.” -Psalm 139:1-4 (ESV)

I ache to be fully known and fully loved, typically projecting that onto the people in my life. Unfortunately, people fail me. Even more unfortunate, I fail them. Sometimes I feel like I am walking around with emotional scars and bruises because I try to put humans into a role only God can fill.

Although I know I have access to the ultimate Soul-Satisfying Source, I find myself afraid to open up for fear it will not be enough. Will it hurt to ask Him to fulfill every need? Will He see me as I am and be disgusted?

David pens a beautiful psalm to the Lord: “You have searched me and known me!” (Psalm 139:1) God sees everything -- absolutely every thought, every action, every stumble -- because He made you and wants you to be His.

David cries out to God, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!” (Psalm 139:23). When we walk in the beauty of our authentic selves, there is no reason to hide. Our Creator has created a good thing and when we feel His love, we desire to walk in freedom.

Being fully known and fully loved is a safe place to honestly confront sins, hurts, and find whole healing. We have a history with the Father. He knows our past, present, future selves, and still calls us closer to Him. Release the fear you have to hide from the Father, friend. He knows every part of you, He made you, and He wants you to walk with Him in wholeness.

He is fully enough for us.

Alex Baker

Alex is a 25-year-old Enneagram 2 (which means she LOVES people!) and currently lives in sunny Tampa, FL. Her heartbeat is for underserved communities and feels God has blessed her to be able to advocate for others in the nonprofit world for a living, which has led her all around the world for her work.
Alex believes in the power of a good Sabbath, so she finds joy in filling her soul with restful things - painting, reading, movies, and card games with family. She also finds great joy in deeply studying the Word and growing in knowledge.

If she could have a second go at life, she'd open a flower shop/coffee shop/bookstore combo (be on the lookout for that if writing doesn't work out). The way to her heart though is definitely through good, unique food and lots and lots of coffee.
