This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: 'In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.'” -Isaiah 30:15

Like the Israelites, I have found myself wandering in the wrong direction more times than I would like to admit. You see, I tend to focus on carrying out my own plans and trusting only what I can see; what I know I can control. I rely on my knowledge and experience instead of prioritizing the truth that God is above my knowledge and experience. In Isaiah 30, we read about the Israelites and their tendencies to carry out their own plans. They were so independent that they neglected their need for God and the promptings of the Holy Spirit in their hearts. The Israelites have taught us many things about the Christian life. For example, just because the grass looks greener on the other side does not mean you need to go there. The Israelites went to Egypt without caring what God had to say about it. When they looked at Egypt, they saw just how abundant it was. It held all they wanted. Or so they thought. Putting God aside, the Israelites made their trek to Egypt.Soon after their arrival, God placed a great famine upon Egypt and the Israelites battled oppression there for 400 years. Yikes. Do the choices of the Israelites sound familiar to you? When we try to carry out our own plans, we lose sight of the fact that we are not in control; that God has already gone before us to prepare the way. When we step out of alignment of the will of God, Satan tries to satisfy us by our indulging in the pleasures of the world. Any decisions we make from a motive of selfishness lead to pure dissatisfaction. Why? Because we are in the world, but not of it; because we were made for more and deep down, our hearts know it.Friends, our decision making process must always include 1) setting our emotions and what we want or think is best for ourselves aside and 2) seeking God's face and opening our hearts to receiving His divine direction. He always knows what's best for us. Believe that He will guide you because He will surely do it!Women of God, if you are in the midst of trying to make a decision, there is nowhere to go but back to the Father.Seek His face. Run into His loving embrace. Find freedom in your decision making. When we change the motives of our hearts and truly allow God to be at work in us, we will find the strength to abide and overcome the worldly desires of our flesh. When the Lord is with us, we cannot fail. Daughters, we can do it.
