Daily Delight
For years I climbed the mountain of success in the academic world, advancing up the professor ranks. I found great fulfillment in teaching and advising students in their academic pursuits. This job filled my professional appetite I had dreamt of for years. As the years past, this appetite fueled an unhealthy balance in life. Long hours were spent working to satisfy expectations of myself and others. Climbing this ladder of success was the only way I knew how to live life. It is what is praised, rewarded, and asked of by others. When I finally achieved this success, I had a minute to look up and breathe. The words that spilled out of my mouth were, “Is this all there is too life?”Somehow, in the process of climbing ladders, I learned that life was all about identity and recognition. With this striving, I had little time for anything else, including friends, health, church, and God. The end result was a thirsty soul. There are lots of earthly ways to fill an empty soul. But, just like the ladder to success, I have found these earthly benefits temporary and fleeing. It wasn’t until I opened up my Bible and started reading God’s Word that I found a lasting quench to my thirst. I moved from knowing about God, to knowing Him on a personal level. I began to hear Him and see Him move in my life. The peace and contentment that came with this connection was exactly what my dried up soul needed.Sister, if you too find yourself with a thirsty soul, it is my prayer that you lay your strivings at God’s feet and invite Him into your life so that He can fill you. Ask God to reveal your true identity and let Him show you what success really is. When you do, you may be pleasantly surprised to find your life is so much richer, abundant, and peace-filled than you could ever imagine.
