Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassion’s never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for you.’” -Lamentations 3:22-24 (NIV)

One of my favorite things to do every morning is to get up early and watch the sunrise. I garner so much peace from this simple act. You see, early in the morning is the only time throughout my day that I have a few minutes of uninterrupted quietness, as the rest of the house slumbers. I love to drink my coffee and watch as the sun inches itself upward over the horizon, until eventually the entire orange, fiery ball takes its rightful place in the vast blue sky.Watching the sunrise, however, represents so much more than a few minutes of tranquility. It serves as a reminder that it is a new day. It is as if God is using the wispy clouds to wipe away all the happenings, worries, and misplaced steps of yesterday and replacing it with an open canvas, white and untouched of human hands. He is giving us the gift of grace to use today to try again. Each of us has something different we are working to improve. As Christian women, many of us strive to have our actions mimic that of Jesus’. However, because of sin, we will always fall short on our efforts. Rather than throwing in the towel on attempts to be changed, embrace the gift God has provided with fresh starts. He understands the journey we are on. He is, after all, leading this journey. I love how the Message Bible translates this verse:

God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left.” -Lamentations 3:22-24

Sisters, let’s use the sunrises each morning as our reminder that we live for today and today only. Let there be no regrets from yesterday and no fears for tomorrow.
