Daily Delight

Maybe you've had one of those too early mornings that feels unbearably familiar; lying awake with tears slowly falling down your cheeks, refusing to stop. The weeping turns from a moment to what feels like months of heartache, but the painful thorn in your heart just won't heal over... I know. I remember a time when my emotional pain was so unrelenting that I questioned whether God was real. Because if He was, where was He? Why did He let me suffer? Why didn't He rescue me from the pain? Wasn't he supposed to be good?

In times of deep devastation, trusting in God's goodness is difficult, but often, is it also the lifeline that we desperately need to hold on to in order to process and progress through our pain. God's divine nature is good. That means that He is good without even trying. It's in His character. He cannot help but be good. In times of suffering, we must seek to gain a perspective of His goodness that is deeper than our understanding. In these hard times, I remind myself of these truths.

First, God has goodness in store for us. "How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you" (Psalm 39:14, ESV). Second, God is good to everyone. "The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made" (Psalm 145:9, ESV). Finally, everything that God is and does is good: "You are good, and what you do is good" (Psalm 119:68, ESV). Even when my world is crashing, I can rest in one constant security: God is still good. Has wants good things for you. He has goodness in store for you. He is good to everyone, not just certain people.

Everything He is and does is good. Even in the midst of suffering, you can rest in this.
