My friend read me a poll asking why people don’t take a serious level of commitment with someone they’re dating. The answers ranged from personality of that person to the stability, etc. But the answer the majority chose wasn't about the person, it was risk. The risk was too high to commit oneself to something they couldn’t predict the outcome. The cost was too high to risk if it failed.
"...The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree...” (Matthew 13:31 - 32 ESV).
Sometimes when you’re praying for a tree, God gives you a seed. He’s answering, but including you in the risk of accepting the invitation to do. God is inviting you into the action of nurturing the seed. I heard once that, “we can fail boldly in life and it doesn’t threaten God’s future.” Those words challenged me to accept that risk involves focusing on my investment. That sometimes risk will involve commitment even if that means failure. If we risk boldly, we might get a chance to contribute greatly. Because if you do the work in the now, if you go through the healing now, if you confront the here and invest with what you have in this moment and not the next; you will be able to contribute greater.
We share a lot on our social media feeds, but sharing our souls with God isn’t as easy. It’s surface level versus deep. It’s preservation versus vulnerability. Preserving the image we want to be perceived as versus risking vulnerability. It’s an investment, and there’s different levels of vulnerability for different times, because deepness is fragile. It's necessary to maintain the discernment for who deserves what level of vulnerability on earth, and full dependency only between myself and God.
Vulnerability with God allows us the trust and courage to risk for God's Kingdom. He desires that you bring your undressed testimony to Him. Continue to risk the investment of sowing the seeds He gives us, because some of them may grow into trees.
