Daily Delight
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
-Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
Long before we got engaged, the Lord separated my fiancé and me for a short while. During the first month or so of the breakup, I was crushed in spirit and without hope. I fed into Satan’s lie that I deserved to be suffering and wasn’t good enough. Yet, despite the weakness in spirit, my faith prevailed.
Through my tears, I said Psalm 6 aloud at night. My church was studying 1 and 2 Peter, and our benediction during the sermon series was, “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast,” (1 Peter 5:10, NIV). I joined a Bible study and met one woman who was grieving a breakup as well. Slowly, but in His perfect timing, God began to mend my broken heart with His Word, wisdom from my church and fellowship with godly women in my community. I can’t imagine going through this deep hurt without my heavenly Father alongside me. Sisters, cherish the gift of His never-ending presence in your life.
Are you in a wilderness season? During my own, the Lord put two beautiful reminders on my heart:
Lean on Me. My days were filled with calling His name at any moment my spirit was weak—in the car, during a walk, any time. After praying, sometimes I was uplifted and other times I remained hopeless—but I learned later that seeking Him was all part of the process of renewing me in Him.
Keep Me at the center. As the Lord renewed my spirit and restored my hope, a revelation came to light: Christ wasn’t my center. Instead, I had put an earthly man at my center and desired to please him first. As a result, Christ took a back seat—talk about dangerous territory!
The Lord may not seem present during your wilderness season—but He is doing good work.
All you have to do is let Him.
