Daily Delight
As a Christian, it’s important to remind ourselves of where we come from. As time passes, change and transformation occur within our perspective and actions.
For a season of my life, I lived the party scene. I was always looking for a good time when I was “in the world”. Alcohol was a norm in my family. As I got older, I didn’t see anything wrong with having a good time, drinking, and partying.
Starting out, I was a lukewarm Christian. I had one foot in church with the other still stuck in the partying scene. I was also dating someone that I prioritized over my relationship with the Lord as well. I desired change but he didn’t.
I wanted to live right and do things the right way for God, but I was all alone. I had a hard time transitioning from my old ways to follow God full heartedly because of this.
When I finally came to a place of devotion to the Lord, I discovered complete peace and a heartfelt joy I had not yet known. I had to release my “of the world” lifestyle, which included my unhealthy, unstable relationship. It was not easy, but it was the right thing to do and God nurtured my heart every step of the way.
Living for God takes humility and obedience, and true change takes time. Wherever you come from and whatever you have overcome, remember to have grace unto others- even if it makes you uncomfortable because it reminds you of your past.
“So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin. You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God. You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy- their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols.” -1 Peter 4:1-3 (NLT)
