Daily Delight

“Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And he could there do no might work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And he marveled because of their own belief.” -Mark 6:3-6 (KJV)

"And straightway he (Saul) preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?” 

-Acts 9:20,21 (KJV) 

The people who knew Jesus and Saul assumed that they knew enough. But they chose not to know the power of God. Will you limit Christ in someone’s life because you forget that He is working in their heart, too? In Jesus’ case, they assumed they knew Him because they grew up with Him. Just because you played together as kids doesn’t mean God couldn’t change that person’s life and use them. 

In Paul’s case, people assumed they knew the Father based on his past sins. What about your own? Just as God changed you, He can change them. Give others the benefit of the doubt and encourage them to be more receptive of His word and His power. Keep your eyes on God’s power, what He can do, and uplift those around you. Don’t be cynical, don’t be skeptical. Often others will react to your treatment of them.

Look past the circumstances, see God’s power, and rejoice.
