"I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living." -Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)
Most people look at this scripture as a staple of hope for the future. “I will see the goodness of the Lord.” As if they aren’t already seeing it but are hoping to see it one day. Let me just say that God was good yesterday, He is good today and He will be good tomorrow. He has already shown you His goodness. In fact, the breath you just took is evidence of the goodness of God. He saved you and He saved me and if He never did another thing in either of our lives, that is more than enough.
I would like to give attention to the word “see” in this passage of scripture. Even in our current seasons, “see” could also mean notice, realize, perceive or give attention to. Open your physical eyes as well as the eyes of your heart and look around to the goodness of the Lord. You may not be where you want to be, but you’re sure as heck not where you used to be! See His goodness!
Don’t let the frustration of your current season cause you to miss out on the goodness of the Lord that has been planted within that same season to help sustain you. When times are tough, hold on to what makes you smile and laugh. Pull closely the things that bring joy to your life. Try not to focus on the overwhelming circumstances (easier said than done, I know..) but trust that God is in control.
When I see people constantly worrying it shows me where their faith is. Constant worry is a direct reflection of the level of your faith. Trusting God takes away every need for concern. Knowing that God is going to work everything out for our good allows us to rest in His goodness. I stop trying to figure things out on my own and rest in the fact that He already has everything figured out for me.
He cares for us and He is a good father who has good things in store for His children.
When I think back, there’s never been a time when God has failed me.
Faithful He has been, and faithful He will be.
Even when everything’s a mess, I will see the goodness of the Lord.
