Daily Delight
A few weeks ago at my church, we talked about living in the favor of God. My pastor said, “The second you breathe your first breath as a believer, you are born into favor.” Shortly after, I went on vacation to my home state of California. The weather forecast showcased rain every day that I was there, and in every city I was supposed to visit. After enduring a long Michigan winter, all I wanted was to see the sun and feel the warmth on my skin. I prayed and asked God, almost jokingly, to please let it be sunny wherever I went, and I proclaimed the favor of God over my trip. And you know what? It totally was. Everywhere I went, the sun came out, and even when I went to the beach, it was clear and without clouds. It was absolutely hilarious.
Then, halfway through my trip, I began to get sick. I was with a friend a nine hour drive away from where I was staying, and I started throwing up as my body surrendered to the sickness. All I wanted was to be at home and in bed, but we were far away from anywhere for me to sleep. My friend was off talking to some people that she had met, and as it turns out, they were from our hometown and even knew some of our friends. After hearing that I was sick, they offered to let us stay the night at their home, and I was able to get a good night’s rest and recover from whatever bug I had caught.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from doing life and living in relationship with my Father, it’s that even when things are going bad, they’re never really that bad with Him. It says in the Psalms, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly” (Ps. 84:11, ESV). Life is not going to be perfect, and we’re going to face trials and hard times, and even though what I faced on my trip was very minor, I know that God cares about the little things and wanted to show me that yes, I do live in His favor, and yes, He is watching over me.
