Daily Delight
A week ago, I was standing in a garden waiting for my younger sister to walk down the aisle in a pretty white dress to meet her husband. I was the matron of honor, standing by her side as she promised forever. As I thought about what I would say in my speech to her that night I couldn’t help but get choked up. Of course, you’re going to cry thinking about your sister getting married but I was shocked by how much I was feeling. I would plan out the sweet things I wanted to say about her and the truth of her identity that I wanted to reaffirm in her and I would just sob. I started thinking, this is how God thinks about me! When God thinks about me He’s moved to tears. When He recalls the way He formed my skin and strategically planned every freckle He can’t help but feel nostalgic. When He looks at the dreams He has planted in my heart like fields of wildflowers He can’t help but beam with hope and pride. When He sees my crooked smile that matches my brother’s He smiles too. “You have made my heart beat faster with a single glance of your eyes,” (Song of Solomon 4:9 NASB)
God made you specifically, uniquely. We hear this message over and over again but we still have it tucked away in the back of our mind that who we are currently is not enough. We think, “Yes, God loves me but if I was perfect I would be even better.” We can’t imagine that maybe the quirks and the things we deem as imperfect are a part of God’s infallible plan. That He looks at those things and is moved to tears because it’s a part of YOU and God is forever moved by YOU.
"You shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. Body and soul, I am marvelously made! You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; the days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.’” -Psalm 139 (MSG)
"How precious are Your thoughts to me! How vast is the sum of them!” -Psalm 139:19 (NASB)
