Daily Delight
A few years ago, God kept telling me that He was calling me out onto water to increase my trust in Him. He continuously spoke to me through the song "Oceans”, by Hillsong United, and the lyrics became my constant and heartfelt prayer for at least 6 months of my life, and they still frequently are today.
One night, months later, I was feeling frustrated because I felt like I had "stepped out" but nothing was happening. I expected that this big act of faith on my part would result in some visible miracle of God working in my life, but I didn't feel like that was happening.
I was telling all of this to God, saying in frustration, "You told me to trust You. You said You would lead me. But now, I'm out here on the water and nothing is happening! Why did you bring me out here just to leave me?"
Immediately, He told me to read Psalm 29:3: "The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters” (ESV).
Okay God, thanks for that mic drop moment.
He didn't call me to walk on the water so that people could see me, He called me out into the silence and solitude so that I could hear nothing but His voice.
We often create expectations for God and, more often than not, He has something different in mind. This doesn't mean He doesn't care or isn't listening to our desires, this means that He knows exactly what we need better than we ever will.
Whatever God is asking you to do, know that it is the best route to a closer relationship with Him. Be willing to release your expectations and trust that He knows what He is doing.
Don't let your expectations keep you from a life-altering encounter with God.
