God Gives Us What We Need

Each morning begins with an alarm in my ear, pulling me from rest and into the day.

It’s too early, but to start my day before my kids get up with needs, I begrudgingly start getting ready. Lately, my youngest--one and wild--is waking earlier and earlier, and I can’t quite get ahead of him. The day's demands begin while I’m still rubbing sleep from my eyes. And I wrestle almost immediately with the idea that the Lord has allowed a lack in my life.

When I question His goodness, when I wrestle with doubt over His provision, especially through the daily struggles or chaos of life, I recite 2 Peter 1:3 to myself:

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence…” (ESV).

He has provided His power to cover all things. Peter wrote these words to scattered believers to encourage them and strengthen them in the gifts of grace that belong to those in Christ. This was the reminder they needed as they faced persecution, threats of death, loss of family, and displacement because of their faith. If Christ’s power was the necessary assurance amid those horrors, how much can it comfort and compel us in our struggles?

Are you struggling with feelings of lack today? Do you feel like you’re floundering in the face of your hardships? Sister, you have been given everything you need for life and godliness through Christ Jesus! You have been given all you need to face that conflict at your job or the impossible co-worker. You have been given everything you need to care for your home without resentment and love your family sacrificially.

Do you feel that you’re lacking sleep today and can’t function? He has given you all things to act in godliness today.

Are you struggling with kids or co-workers today? God has given you everything you need to walk in a manner worthy of the gospel.

Do you feel you aren’t enough for all you’re called to? God has given you everything you need for life and godliness.

Rest in Him today. Look to Him today. Call on Him. For He hears, cares, and generously helps us in our need–not by our might but by His.
