The Truth About Following Jesus

As Christians, we often get it in our heads that life should be

easy

for us; that, because we chose to do life with Jesus we are automatically saved from any pain.

The Truth About Following Jesus

The reality is, we aren’t saved from enduring hard things. In fact, the Bible tells us that we

will

endure suffering in this life. (Psalm 34:19)

Sis, we don’t get a free pass because we have Jesus, but we can rest knowing two things:

1) We are promised that one day all pain will be washed away when we enter Heaven and reside with our Father for eternity. (Revelation 21:4)

2) We know our suffering is not void; God will use our stories, pain and all, to bring us closer to Him, to improve our character, and to share the gospel with others. (Romans 5:3-5)

Suffering Has Purpose

Just as Jesus suffered on the cross for us, we must also suffer for Him. (1 Peter 2:21) When we signed on to be disciples of Jesus, we signed on for a life of persecution and trial. We also signed on to rejoice even in our suffering; to cling to Jesus when all hope seems lost because, with Him, it never is. We can know that even when life is hard, God is still good and He is still working.

I have endured several painful experiences in my life. These experiences have left me feeling broken and weary, but through them, I have grown in maturity and wisdom. Through them, I have seen God use my struggles to provide encouragement for others who are dealing with similar things.

Our pain, no matter what it is, has a purpose.

When we understand God's intent for our struggles, we are then able to aid people in theirs. In doing so, we are able to be living proof of how God can redeem any situation.

Following Jesus is a big commitment that comes with sacrifice. This life will undoubtedly be hard at times, but the reward of following Jesus and seeing Him work in and through us is so very worth it.

Biblical Encouragement For the Christian Walk

Psalm 34:19: “

The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all

” (NIV).

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away

” (NIV).

Romans 5:3-5: “

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us

" (NIV).

1 Peter 2:21: “

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps

" (NIV).
